Tutorial – IKEA Mirror Upcycle

You too can take one of these Ikea mirrors…

And jazz it up for someone special…

Mine has been personalised for my daughter who absolutely loves it.

To upcycle the Ikea mirror just like mine you’ll need…

Metallic Purple Acrylic Paint (Baker Ross)
Various size brushes
Black permanent marker pen
White/glitter decals
Black/glitter butterfly decals
Mod podge gloss

Tools
Glue & Paint Brushes

The mirror was actually rather glossy in its texture which meant I really should have striped it down to ensure the purple acrylic paint would stick to the frames surface.

20130425-024959.jpg

However, I decided to try something different! One… I was being lazy, and two… Because I wanted to experiment a little with painting techniques.

So, I applied my paint directly on top of the mirrors frame. For the first coat a very thin layer was applied with a sponge applicator. For the second layer I applied another thin layer in the opposite direction I painted the last.

For the final layer I swirled the paint with the tip of my sponge to gain the effect shown below.

I then let my frame dry for an hour

For the next part of this upcycle I took a black permanent marker and with it I wrote my daughters name (Alice Sara) at the top and bottom of my frame like so. Alice has a double barrel name but you could maybe use the first name followed by their middle name or surname.

20130425-025107.jpg

I then left it for a further hour just to ensure the pen was fully dry to ensure I didn’t smudge it during the next step.

I then decorated my frame with the decals. I applied some decals to my wording as to give a 3D impression.

20130425-025152.jpg

My last few steps was to cover the entire frame in mod podge gloss and
fit the mirror back into the frame to finish.

20130425-112049.jpg

If you don’t fancy trying this yourself I’m happy to create one for you. All you need to do is email me the name you want to use to personalise the frame and any other requirements… boy, girl, colour, design etc. This maybe created on a different frame dependent on howmany of this type I have left. All will be of similar sizes and of good quality.

This Weeks Charity Shop Finds

This week I visited a local charity shop not far from where I live. I found a few nice bits and bobs but there was one item I particularly fell in love with and its that I want to share today.

This shabby chic wooden box.

20130128-032412.jpg

This is a really pretty box! It has lovely detail with rustic hinges and beautiful hand painted pink roses. The base colour on the box is that of a pretty light almost mint green and cream which works beautifully with the rose pattern design.

20130128-032657.jpg

20130128-032519.jpg

The box is really sturdy and well made. It has plenty of room inside to store jewellery or other items. I’ve decided it will make a brilliant storage box for all of my little odds and ends, the kind you struggle to know where to store … Hair clips, brooches etc.

20130128-032821.jpg

The box was priced up for an amazing 50p so I must say that, yes… I came out of there smiling.

Anyone else found any charity shop treasure this weekend?

How Too Use Decopatch To Decorate Paper Mâché Letters

20130118-191302.jpg

I love working with Decopatch and always get excited when ordering new papers.

I visited one of my favourite stores last weekend… Hobbycraft! Floors and floors of crafty loveliness. Sadly there wasn’t many decopatch papers in stock as it seems everyone has taken up the hobby of late. I did buy some more rose patterned papers and a gorgeous set of funky heart papers, perfect for valentines. They also had lots of paper mâché shapes and boxes in the sale. I grabbed some more hearts, a few tiny picture frames, 3 gift boxes/gift bags, a heart embossed box and some great large Decopatch letters.

Most of the items I’ve covered in Decopatch paper have been covered in just the one pattern or colour, this time I wanted to cover the letter “A” in a variety of different paper designs to create a really funky design for my daughters bedroom. I was planing to buy all the letters to spell out the name Alice which I was planing to hang on her wall but sadly they didn’t have the letter “L” so I designed just to do the one letter that she can hang on her door or free stand on her dresser or chest of draws.

Luckily I had a nice collection of left over paper pieces that ranged from pretty shabby pink and floral prints to funky denim and bold star designs… Perfect for what I had in mind!

Here’s what I used…

Paper mâché large letter (A)
Lots of odd pattern Decopatch paper pieces
Antique cream paint (white is perfect)

Tools
Deco patch glossy glue
Glue brush
Paint brush
Scissors

I’ve spoken about how to work with Decopatch before on the blog. So with this I won’t go into to much detail here in fear of boring you all.

Basically I cut my random pieces of paper into various sizes shapes and sizes.

20130118-190544.jpg

Before applying these to my paper mâché I painted the letter in an antique cream colour with acrylic paint. I would have just used white but because I only had white spray paint and didn’t fancy chocking oneself I opted for the cream instead.

My reason for painting the paper mâché is because its rather dark before beforehand and some of my papers were quite light. This is why Taking the time to give your paper mâché a quick lick of paint makes sense! It may be more preparation and time but you save on papers (these are not cheap) plus its easier later on.

I find that acrylic paint is really fast to dry so I was able to get started within a an hour of painting the paper mâché letter.

20130118-190358.jpg

I do enjoy Decopatch but its so messy and I often end up looking like I have skin melting of the tips of my fingers. I worked on one side at a time, adding a layer of glue to my base and one over the paper to seal in place, slightly overlapping each piece along the way.

20130118-190712.jpg

20130118-190819.jpg

I decided not to rush my letter letting each side dry fully before starting another. While your Decopatch paper is wet it is more likely to rip especially when the glue is drying with your finger tips stuck to it! Hence the reason patience was important.

20130118-190934.jpg

I worked on all sides in the same way patching up any gaps with tiny pieces of paper.

20130118-191100.jpg

I decided to give it another glossy coat of glue once finished and then left over night to dry.

Funky wouldn’t you say?

Design Flair With Harumika

The Harumika Bridal Collection Set by Bandai came in our second trutoyologist box. Alice-Sara couldn’t wait to get this out of its box in-order to start designing her very own Bridal Collection.

I’d seen these at the 2012 London Toy Show and was keen to discover more about them.

This is not the first set that Bandai has launched, however it was the first Harumika set we had tried.

The packaging is a very girly pink with design images and a 123 step instruction diagram located at the back of the box.

20121007-115702.jpg

The box has a clear window at the front allowing you to see all the contents inside. For me this is a great selling featuring as its good to know what your actually getting for your money before leaving the store.

20121007-115848.jpg

Sadly, what I did find strange is the fact there are no instructions inside the box. I gave it a good shake in the hope the instruction booklet would fall out from the bottom but it didn’t.

In all honesty the set is dead simple to use and takes no time at all to get to grips with it. For us the 123 mini demonstration at the back of the box was more than enough. However I can’t speak for everybody and some may feel a tad let down at the fact there isn’t more detailed instructions or a design booklet for inspiration.

Not that Alice needed one. Her creative flair was taking over and she was having a great time experimenting with her new Harumika set.

20121007-115630.jpg

A great selling point for Harumika is the fact you can make stunning designs with out the need to cut, glue or sew. There really is no mess with this set and for me this made it seem very attractive.

The Harumika Bridal Collection comes complete with 2 design tools which are basically a small stick that you use to push the material into the silicone slot located at the back of each of the two Mannequins. This works well to snugly hold your designs in place.

20121007-124013.jpg

At first glance, many will feel £39.99 is a lot of money for what it is they are getting. Admittedly, I felt the same way! But, and this is a big But! I soon changed my mind when watching how much Alice could create with the materials supplied in the kit and how long it kept her occupied for.

Below are images that shows all the contents when removed from the packaging.

20121007-121120.jpg

20121007-122240.jpg

Included are 2 Mannequins (one already dressed) 2 styling tools, lots of material, transfers (gems and stones) and a number of trimmings such a ribbon. Also in this set you will find a fold out dressing room with mirror which creates a lovely backdrop to display your finished designs.

Another great feature to this set is that you can keep on reusing it. As there is no sticking or sewing! Material just goes back into his normal sharpe and form. It is easily removed for reuse once released from the silicone slot on the Mannequins back. This means you can go on designing and no additional materials need purchasing.

In this video below Alice-Sara demonstrates just how easy Harumika really is. (Sorry the video is a little dark, every time I turned the camera light on she resembled the daughter of the devil.)

For those reading this, I take it you have access to a computer? Harumika has its very own website where wannabe fashion designers can come together and share their design inspiration. Regular creative competitions and fashion shows are hosted on the site and its packed with tips and ideas to help you create perfect collections every time.

20121007-132336.jpg

Alice-Sara really enjoyed this activity and has requested another set for Christmas. As a parent I feel that its one of those toys you either love or hate. I love that the child isn’t required to follow a step by step guide to copy Pre-designed dresses. Instead This is a set that requires the use of your child’s imagination which is sure to produce more unique and magical creations. For me its a brilliant fit for Alice’s creative flair and the fact its mess free is just a massive added bonus.

Look… Even the cat wanted in on the action…

20121007-130010.jpg

Ok… Maybe Not! I think he just wanted someone to give him his dinner!

The Harumika Bridal Collection is available to buy from Toys R Us stores and will bring a smile to the face of any little fashion designer.

Octobers Top Online Creative Comps

I love a creative comp (see my room in a shoe box entry) that’s why I’ve decided to create this post to share with readers the best online skill-based competitions I’ve found so far for this October 2012.

1) Trunki Design Competition With
Thomas Cook:

20121003-093450.jpg

From Friday 28th September, wannabe-designers can put their colouring skills to the test using either Thomas Cook’s Trunki design toolkit on its Facebook page which works like Microsoft Paint – or on a paper Trunki template which people can pick up from any one of Thomas Cook’s 800 stores.

Alex Emberey, who works for the family holiday giant, Thomas Cook, said: ““Trunkis have proved themselves to be the travelling accessory for children over the past couple of years, and I don’t think I’m alone in wishing there was an adult version! As a family holiday company, we wanted to give parents and kids something to enjoy doing together between the summer holidays and half term which kept the holiday spirit alive. We hope parents will enlist the help of their little ones for a real masterclass in colouring in.”

The deadline for suitcase submissions is Friday 19th October, after which Trunki’s design gurus will pick a winning design in four different categories: Boys, Girls, Animals/Bugs and Cartoon Characters. Each of the winners will win a Trunki of their choice and secure a place in the final prize draw to win a fabulous summer 2013 family. Thomas Cook’s Facebook community will vote for a fifth finalist, who will also get one of the pull-along cases and be entered into the holiday prize draw.

The lucky winning designer and their family will be jetting off – Trunki in tow – to the Parque Cristabel Hotel in Playa Del Ingles, Gran Canaria next summer.

As much as I hate voting competition this one is mainly judged with 4 places in the final going to 4 entries chosen by Trunki and an additional entry going through to the final based on Facebook votes.

KIDS CRAFTS – MAKE PERSONALISED BIRTHDAY CARDS

Boden UK ran a competition recently to celebrate their 21st Birthday. You had to design a birthday card and then email it to them. I’m unsure if the competition winners have yet been drawn so I can’t point you in their direction but I can share with you all Alice-Sara’s entry which I thought was fantastically creative.

Her design consists of two models dressed in their party focks. Alice started by drawing the outline of her two models onto white folded card. She then used scraps of material and sparkly gems for one of their outfits and a number of flower embellishments for the other.

20120924-204109.jpg

20120924-205452.jpg

She then covered some large card in some birthday paper before mounting the white folded card on top. She decorated with different embellishments, glitter and stick on sparkly gems.

Alice then painted her models in ELC glow in the dark paint (just so her entry couldn’t be missed)

20120924-205827.jpg

Having waited for her design to dry she finished it off like all cards… With a big happy birthday message inside.

20120924-210015.jpg

I’m pretty sure the winners have been notified already and although Alice-Sara wasn’t one of them, her card is a winning design in my eyes and i’m very proud of her artistic flair.

What we used

Craft Papers: (free with a crafting magazine but available at all good craft shops)
Sparkly Gems: PoundLand
Scrapbook embellishments: TK Maxx
Glitter (can’t remember I have so much of the stuff)
Glow In The Dark Paint: Early Learning Centre (ELC)

A craft project – Glass Painting

I love working with glass, it’s such a delicate material to craft with, but one that almost always produces brilliant results.

This last month, I’ve been feeling very crafty! I’ve had a bit of an obsession with my Deco and Porcelain paint pens as well as that of Pic-Tixx 3D Glitter.

Both myself and the kids have been busy creating a whole host of stuff. A few weeks ago we designed our own porcelain plates, then we went on to create some porcelain mugs to match. More recently I’ve been using Deco paint pens and Pic-Tixx 3D Glitter to add my own unique stamp to items such as t-shirts and I’m currently in the process of making some boring leggings into some groovy ones!

Apart from the leggings, I’ve been busy jazzing up some glass lanterns for the garden. These, I brought in a really funky shop called ‘Tiger’ it’s kinda like the ikea market place but better. They sell all kinds of stuff from vintage inspired puppets to masquerade masks. I often buy funky bits of stationary and pretty plane glass jars which I use to create pretty gifts for family ( I’m planing on demonstrating how I do this next week).

The glass lanterns have thin metal handles so they can be hung as well as placed on a table. I have brought loads over the summer and at both £1 and £2 (depending on size and colour) they are a great find and I love them.

However despite their already prettiness, I really wanted to put my own stamp on them. This was perfect as I could do almost any funky design without worrying about them matching the decor as these are intended for the garden. I’m a big lover of vintage pastels and French inspired furniture. I’m currently in the processes of restoring furniture to give it that slightly worn shabby chic look. The pastels and French cottage theme is being carried out right throughout the house, so, I’ve decided to bring bright funky colours to the garden… I love glitter but used within the home, unless it’s Christmas, is in my opinion a tad tacky… That’s why I’m glitzing up the back yard instead.

So far I’ve been customising green and pink tinted glass lanterns as well as some clear ones.

I hadn’t created any design or plan! In fact, I’m sure I didn’t even have one in my head… Nope, I had no ideas whatsoever. So, I just went with the flow, putting pen to glass and just doing whatever came into my head right then and now.

What I used:
Deco Paint Pens: These write like a thick felt tip pen, the colour is released from the pen onto almost any service, and it’s only then you can tell its actually acrylic paint your using.

Porcelain Paint pens: These work like those above, except when it comes to porcelain these are much more striking. So, when working with porcelain I’ll be honest when stating… if given the choice out the two I’d go for the porcelain paint pens when using on plates and cups but equally the deco pens when, like now, I’m decorating glass.

Pic-Tixx 3D Glitter: This is absolutely amazing stuff, I love it! It works well on almost any surface, wood, glass, porcelain, china, plastic and even fabric (wash garments at 30’c but be sure to set the glitter on your design with an iron before hand). I’ve found these work amazingly on glass, though there is one colour in my packet of 6 that is much runner than the rest, meaning it isn’t very 3D either.

Glass Lanterns: My pretty garden candle lanterns in pink & green stained glass, as well as my clear glass lanterns were brought from a shop locally to me called ‘Tiger’ unsure if these are online. Each is priced between £1-£2 and they are the perfect size for decorating.

If you can’t find this kind of glassware, clean jam jars and existing votive holders are all possibilities worth considering.

Paint pens and glitter I use can be picked up for a good price at Baker Ross.

I don’t need to give you a step-by-step guide, as it’s as simple as drawing your own design directly onto the glass. However, here is a few tips if your using Deco paint pens or 3D Pic-Tixx.

1) Decorate one side and leave to dry for a good few hours before finally completing the remaining side.

2) If using Deco-Pens as well as Pic-Tixx then opt for darker more striking colours. This works better with the glitter.

20120909-132158.jpg

3) Don’t attempt to use Pic-Tixx while Deco paint is still drying! It just gets messy.

4) if any mistakes are made, quickly wipe away with a slightly wet cotton pad and a wet cotton bud for the smaller harder to reach mistakes.

20120909-132409.jpg

This is a dead simple but very effective way to create a glass masterpiece or simply jazz up items already found around the home.

Whatever you decided to do… Be sure to have fun while releasing the creativeness from within!

20120909-135844.jpgThe Results

I hope you feel inspired to give it ago!

A one off design

Armed with a white t-shirt, Deco pens and some Pic Tixx glitter pens, I decided to express some creative flair.

It was simple!

All I did was draw my design on the t-shirt first with pencil and once I was happy with it, I drew over the pencil with black Deco pen.

20120831-234532.jpg

20120831-234715.jpg

Then I added the details… Hair, tattoos, bracelet etc.

20120831-234917.jpg

I used Pic Tixx glitter pens to add some sparkle. I especially love the silver that I added to the bracelet and the red strikes of glitter in her hair!

20120831-235447.jpg

I did smudge a little of the red! As I went to hang the t-shirt over the door to dry it, I must have accidentally knocked it. Given the Pic Tixx works so well I couldn’t remove it! I therefore plan to add some funky backdrop later on.

20120831-235836.jpg

The Pic Tixx Glitter and Deco pens (pack of 6) are from Baker Ross. They are really reasonably priced, £10.99 for the pens and £9.99 for the glitter. They can be used on almost any surface and last a good length of time.

The t-shirt I used was just a plain white tee from ASOS that I’ve had sat in the draw for donkeys years.

So, there you have it! A true one off tee designed by me! Why don’t you get crafty and give it a go!

Papier-Mache Decorated Eggs Housed in Pretty Easter Basket

When I was a young child there was nothing better than a good creative Easter competition (there still isn’t) I guess it’s just that bit more exciting as a child.

My primary school used to hold an egg decorating competition which I used to take part in with the help of my grandmother every single year without fail! I actually won 1 year with my entry of Humpty Dumpty and his wife. I decorated two hard-boiled eggs and made a pretty impressive wall with an inserted egg box that allowed my eggs to sit comfortably and steady.

My daughter attends the same primary school and I’ve been disappointed at the lack of creative Easter Competitions this year and last. However, there have been plenty online, plus we’ve been embarking on many creative projects in celebration for the coming Easter purely because we enjoy doing so!

This year with the help of my 9-year-old daughter we’ve made papier-mache decorated eggs and housed them in a beautiful hand decorated spring Easter basket.

What’s more this doesn’t require any blowing or boiling of eggs, but a little mess all the same.

Here’s what you need and how to complete each step

MAKING PAPIER MACHE EGGS

6 polystyrene eggs

Selection of pale coloured tissue paper

Mixture of 2 part PVA glue to 1 part water (this is instead of using flour to create papier-mache paste)

A bowl and old wooden spoon for mixing the Papier Mache mix

Tray to transfer Papier Mache paste

Paint brush (though not essential fingers do nicely)

Step 1) Find a flat surface to work on, laying down plenty of newspaper start by tearing (cut if you prefer) the sheets of tissue paper, once complete leave to one side for later.

2) In the mixing bowl, place 2 parts white PVA glue to 1 part water using the wooden spoon to mix.

3) Pour papier-mache paste into a tray, one that allows you and your child to coat the paper in the mixture without obstruction.

4) Take a polystyrene egg then chose some strips of tissue paper. You can cover the egg in a mixture of colours or just the one, we choose to do both. Coat the tissue paper in the papier-mache mix then lay it over the egg, smoothing it out as you go. Do this till the egg is covered and no polystyrene can be seen, then add a second layer. Do this for all six eggs.

If desired, you can use the paint brush to smooth the paper over the eggs, though fingers are fine if you don’t mind getting gooey.

5) Place your completed eggs somewhere to dry. Room temperature is efficient enough. We have a metal wire shelf which slots under any type of shelving. I placed this high up under some bedroom shelving and left to fully dry for a period of 24 hours.

Once dry they will look like something like those below.

DECORATING YOUR 6 PAPIER MACHE EGGS

We used lots of different bits and pieces as to decorate the eggs. As I was engaging in this particular activity with my daughter, this resulted in lots of glitter and sticky gem stones for us. Feel free to decorate in your own way. If you do chose to decorate your eggs like ours, then here’s a “How too” for the 6 eggs we decorated. Note… Each of our six finished eggs got their own style overhaul.

Here’s what we used.

Selection of different glitters (both coarse and fine)

Selection of gem pre-glued embellishments

Both thin and thick double-sided tape (as well as some pre-cut glue tabs)

Selection of flower and butterfly shapes (foam and card)

Coloured felt tips

Black Marker

Selection of beads and sequins

Some clear glue

Paint brush

Some of the glitter was more christmas than spring  in my opinion, but my daughter being the little girlie girl she is, insisted on the dark pinks.

GREEN GEM EGG

Step 1) For the green egg, you simply add a thin strip of double-sided tape around the centre of the egg, making sure you don’t overlap or join the tape. Leave a very slight gap, this will be covered up in step 3. Its important not to remove the outer protective strip on the tape till your tape is placed correctly and your happy with it. You also want to be sure that you have your chosen glitter sprinkled over some newspaper on a flat working surface.

Step 2) Once the tape is positioned correctly, peel off the outer protective strip and then roll the egg in some green tinted golden glitter. Press firmly making sure all the tape has collected the glitter, blow to remove any excess! Once complete this should resemble a glittery ribbon.

Step 3) Stick a pre-glued gem (we used a crystal type gem) to your egg, placing it where the slight gap was left when you added your double-sided tape.

That’s it you now have your first completed egg!

PINK AND BLUE GEM EGG

Step 1) Repeat steps 1-3 above, only this time role your egg in some course blue glitter. Do not add an embellishment at this stage.

Step 2) Next take the thick double-sided tape, which is much less fingers and thumbs than that of the thin tape we have been working with. Start in the middle at one end of the blue glitter strip wrapping the tape around the egg till it reaches the other side of the blue strip. There is no need for any gaps this time.

Step 3) If like us your thick double-sided tape is white rather than clear (as most tend to be) take a pink felt tip pen running it around the other edges of the tape so once covered in glitter no white will be visible from the side view of the egg.

Step 4) Sprinkle fine dark pink glitter over some newspaper and then roll your egg in different directions collecting the glitter as you go. Making sure there is no white tape visible.

Step 5) Add a large blue pre-glued heart where the tape meets to complete.

YELLOW 3D FLOWER EGG

Cut a double-sided sticky tab in half, adding it to the centre of the yellow egg.

Step 1) Take a plain foam medium-sized thin flower and stick it to the tab pressing firmly to insure it sticks.

Step 2) Then take you’re remaining half of sticky tab and cut in half again placing it in the middle of the foam flower.

Step 3) Take a thin card white glittery flower, the same size and shape as that of your foam flower and lay it on top, pressing firmly in the middle with your finger to ensure it sticks.

Step 4) Take a pale pink clear flower sequins and stick to the centre of the flower with clear glue.

Step 5) add a tiny pre-glued crystal style embellishment to the centre of the sequin to complete your egg.

MUTI-COLOURED BEADED EGG

This is a really funky and fun egg to make.

Step one) With your thick double-sided tape, tape around the centre of your multi-coloured egg, leaving no gap.

Step 2) go around the outer edges of tape with coloured felt tip pen as to hide the white sides of tape or these will be visible after the beads are added. We chose blue as this was one of the colours the egg had been covered in.

Step 3) Chose a mix of different size beads and sequins in an array of different colours and place to one side.

Step 4) Peel back a small section of tape, then stick beads and sequins to the tape in all different angles as to give an uneven texture. Continue slowly unreeling the tape and arranging the beads and sequins as you go till you have completed the whole process.

Step 5) Sprinkle chosen coloured glitter over the tape and beads as to fill any visible gaps, shake of excess glitter.

Step 6) With a paint brush cover the beads all the way around in a clear glue as to provide a seal. Leave to dry for 3-4 hours to complete.

MUTI-COLOURED GEM EGG

Step 1) This is the only step needed to decorate this egg, it’s a really simple and quick way to jazz up your eggs. Take some tiny heart gems in different colours (we used pink, blue and purple) stick them in different places all over the egg (making sure these are not to close to one another to complete)!

MUTI-COLOURED FLOWER AND BUTTERFLY EGG

Step 1) Cut 1 medium sticky double sided tab in half and half again.

Step 2) Stick the 4 pieces of the cut double-sided sticky tab to the front of the egg, placing one at the top, one in the middle and 2 either side do not remove outer protective cover at this stage.

Step 3) with a black marker draw round the outer sections of the sticky tabs in black pen, as shown in some of the other designs above.

Step 4) take one white glittery butterfly and stick this to the sticky tab in the centre of the egg once outer protective cover is removed .

Step 5) Remove all other protective covering from the remaining 3 sticky tabs and then take 3 black glittery flowers adding one to the top and the remaining 2 either side of the butterfly to complete your egg.

DECORATED EASTER BASKET

Now all your 6 eggs are decorated you’ll need somewhere to safely house them. A beautifully decorated Easter basket sounds like the perfect place, so here’s what you’ll need.

Woven Pretty Basket (we got a pretty multi-coloured basket from Poundland)

Around 2 and a 1/2 meters of yellow ribbon

A leaf template

3 sheets green card

Scissors

Pre-glued small crystal style gem embellishments

One small Easter Chicks (Poundworld £1 for a dozen)

2 white decorative bunnies (PoundLand £1 for a dozen)

Bag of yellow basket straw (this was the plastic type) you can however add some coloured paper to a shredder for the same effect.

Step 1) Take ribbon and cut a small section and put to one side (enough to tie a bow around centre of handle)

Step 2) With the remaining ribbon tie a bow at the bottom of the handle, secure with small piece of clear thin double-sided tap. Wrap the rest of the ribbon tightly around the handle ensuring it slightly over laps till you reach the opposite end. Finish by tying the remaining ribbon in a bow and securing with thin clear double-sided tape, as you did to start with.

Step 3) With the piece of ribbon you left to one side, now use it to tie a pretty ribbon in the centre of the decorated handle.

Step 4) Use your leaf template, drawing around it in pencil onto some green card. Cut these out, fold and score down the middle with blunt end of scissors, as to create a leaf effect. Add two tiny crystal style pre-glued gem embellishments to either side at top of the leaf. Make how many leafs you desire, we used 3. Once complete put to one side till later.

Step 5) Use a 1/4 of the basket straw or shred 3 sheets of yellow paper to cover the bottom of your basket . Tip, allowing strands to hang over the basket gives it a good messy effect.

Step 6) Take the leaves and add these around the sides of the basket as desired.

Step 7) Arrange your decorated eggs amongst the straw and leaves.

Step 8) to finish add your cute little chick and two white bunnies to the basket as desired, completing this enjoyable Easter project.

Hope you enjoyed and feel inspired to make your own papier-mache decorated eggs and Easter basket.
