Kids Halloween Crafts – Spooky Bookmarks

These funky spooky bookmarks are awesome and a great addition to the Halloween treat bags featured here a few days back.

These really are simple to make and kids will have lots of fun designing and making bookmarks for those who come trick or treating.

How To Make A Spooky Pumpkin Bookmark…

Step 1: Take your foam sheet and place your ruler along the edge of the foam drawing a line from the top to the bottom.

Step 2: Cut along the line and then at each end with a ruler make a small mark 3cms in.

Step 3: Now on each end of your foam you can create the tassel effect by just snipping up to the 3cm mark you made. Do this all the way along at both ends.

Step 4: Draw a pumpkin shape on a section of the remaining orange foam. Use your foam strip as a guide placing it on the foam then making two marks either side. This will ensure your pumpkin will fit on your spooky bookmark.

Step 5: Cut out and then use a craft knife to cut out the pumpkins eyes nose and mouth (of course its best you do the cutting not the child)!

Step 6: Cut out a slightly smaller circle from the black piece of card ensuring that when the pumpkin is placed on top of it no card can be seen from the sides. Stick the black card with the use of glue dots to the middle of the orange foam strip… Aka bookmark!

Step 7: Now in the same way stick the pumpkin on top of the black card so that the pumpkin now has black eyes, nose and mouth.

Step 7: In pencil to start with, add detail to the pumpkin and decorate your bookmark like I have (pencil means mistakes can be rubbed out)! Once happy with design go over in black marker.

Step 8: Use Pic-Tixx 3D Glitter to add sparkle. I’ve used the green for the pumpkin’s vine and some gold for the message and tassels.

Step 9: Now just leave to dry and be sure to check no pencil makes can be seen! If so this are easily rubbed away with the use of a standard rubber.

So… there you have it… Simple!

You can make all sorts of designs like this really girly pink ghost bookmark that has a white foam ghost that has been detailed using black marker and and blue Deco paint for the eyes.

  1. Love these! We are going to a Halloween party this year so these are a great idea for the girls to make as a gift for the hosts. My only concern is how I’m going to use one of these to mark my place in my e-reader 😉
